Stitchers Dream Day Out

On Sunday l spent the day out at the Quilter Angels Quilters Day Out held in Highfields Queensland.  (Stitchers Dream Day Out).  Was held at their new venue which was fantastic....plenty of room to move about and out of the weather....lovely goodies to purchase at will and a delicious lunch provided.  Fantastic new patterns to stitch made by three great designers.... Natalie Bird.... Gail Pann......Nikki  Button lady.
On the stage area there was a mini quilt show of the designers other patterns and projects. Lots of goods to purchase at the store.

I know you cannot make them all out but believe me they are gorgeous.  Some of them l have already made others l will only dream about making.

The tutors were on hand to show you new and interesting tools that you may or may not know about. Techniques to make your life of stitching easier.   Looking forward to next years Girls sewing day out with more great tutors like Leanne Beasley (Leanne's House) and Kris Meares (Tag Along Teddies) a local girl. Rosalie Quinlan (Rosalie Quinlan Designs),  Ella Madsen (Ella and Skysie) and last of all Debbie Magee (Always Stitchin')  Should be another great year ahead. Thank you all for a wonderful day out.

Is This Kansas

Am l in Kansas?
These are Ruby's Slippers to match her new Amy Butler  Bag.  Found this slipper pattern in the New Australian Homespun magazine, NO.112 Vol 13 No.9.

Am going to have fun with this one. Also made the eye mask for sleeping or travel. Decided to go with black trim to match the bag.  Have nearly used up all the left over fabric....may be one more little project.  From A Trip to Remember POM Beauty Essential Pack found in the same magazine.  So l am sure there is plenty to keep me busy..... going to be fun.

Here it is already to use, sweet dreams.

Guess What I Am Up To Again.

Purchased this fabric sometime ago with a single purpose in mind, another Amy Butler bag.

Well have finial found time to start this project for my nephews partner. When l saw this fabric l new it was the one for her.... they just moved back from New Zealand last year.  l have had time to get to know them a lot better.  I am sure she will be happy with the end result as Ruby has mentioned a number of time how she likes this bag.

 Post photos towards the end of the week when l hope to have item completed. (No. 11).

After an afternoon of machine problems and minor maintenance, have completed another bag.  Very very happy with the results.
The fabric is rich and lush, almost has a velvet look about it.  Cannot help but stroke it. Chose to co ordinate it with black to enhance the appeal.

Owl Quilt Top

 As you can see there was a bit of preparatory work to be completed before we could even start any sew at all.

 This took most of Thursday / Friday  before  Bobbie arrived and continued long after the two of us had partaken in much chatter and chocolate consumption. Saturday we spent the day appliqueing our owl down and making the eyes for our owls. A short trip to Spotlight to stretch our legs, then finial our bodies gave in to exhaustion.

Made plans for Bobbie to return through the week, when we then pieced our owl panels together put in our sashings  and started on the boarders.

It was then decided to continue at our own pace to complete the project as making another time to meet up before Bobbie leaves Toowoomba for her adventure of traveling around Australia in a Bus, was going to prove difficult.

Placed on top and bottom boarders on last Friday arvo.

Then today l finial completed the two side boarders not with out some measurement drama of course. Just love the way it has all turned out.

Bright is something l would normal stay away from but l find myself being drawn more and more towards them.  Just love the colours Bobbie chose for us.......

Play Time

 On Friday night my good blogging friend from "its all about me" Bobbie. B. and l organized a sewing night/sleep over.  We shopped for fabric and pattern the week before. The pattern is 9 Wise Owls from Kookaburra Cottages.

This is only a sneak peak, as we intend to finish the project off through the week.   There was a bit too much talking, chocolate consumption and silliness not necessarily in that order due to lack of sleep.   Finally getting some rest about 5am on Saturday morning....only returning  later to continue our project with a trip to Spotlight.   The lack of sleep finally taking its toll on us somewhere around 6.30pm on Saturday night.

Another Apron & Bag.

Another matching bag and apron for a friends daughter in Melbourne.  Has be a pleasure to make this cute little combo. Sweet sixteen bag pattern and Brandy Gully apron pattern. Another beautiful day of sewing.

Veggie Garden

 Veggie patch is producing great veggies, out of the six cauliflowers planted all six have grown beautifully.

 Love the idea of home grown. Need to get the patch ready for the next season of veggies. Snow peas and Sugar snap peas have also been plentiful.

Adding To Stash.

A week or so ago, l went out for some retail therapy with a friend and purchased some yellow fabric because l was weak weak weak. I know l should have been stronger but l couldn't help myself. lol.  Not knowing why or what l was every going to do with more fabric and a colour l had never thought about before. YELLOW.  Well whilst l was out buying those pink pompoms for the bag l made, l saw more and just had to have it just in case l came up with an idea. I also purchased 2 meters for a boarder. ????   Came home and played with the fabric for a while.  May have found an idea using the apple core template OR a stack and slash.  I always need another UFO l obviously don't have enough.

The purple and grayish black fabric will hopefully be transformed into a banner for my sewing room.  Help! help!  l 'm drowning in fabric. LOL.

Need more hours in my day, l think we should have at least 26 hours, two hours a night to catch up on all those sewing projects we have floating around in our heads.

Apron & Bag

Very cute and girly this little apron and bag pattern from Brandy Gully.
Used variegated thread for a more decorative look.

Like to use up the scrappy bits from other projects.
Only bit l had to buy was the pompoms. Think my little
friend will enjoy the parcel coming her way.
Something must be in the air as l am making a few girly things of late.Waiting on news about the two new arrivals entering the family in the coming weeks.    Exciting times.  Don't normally use pink, but seem to be finding its way in to some of my work.  Wonder if that is a sign of more things to make in pink. lol.

Coat Hanger Covers.

Here are two of the three coat hanger covers l have put together today.  A very good friend of mine gave me this fabric. I thought they would look lovely hanging up in any young girls cupboard. Think it might need a little more embellishment, maybe a pink ribbon bow or buttons. Very quick and easy to make thank you BB.  

Out & About

Fellow blogger Bobbie B. It's All About Me and I decided to make a break for it..... we came up with a plan.....to do lunch and a bit of retail therapy.

 After our therapy session we settled in at the Angel cafe, for well deserved sustenance, absolutely the best food l have tasted in a while at any cafe/restaurant.

Upon refueling we once again headed of for more therapy, our day coming to a close we decided to make another time to have a play date.  Next time we are going to actually do some sewing with the fabrics we purchase.  A sewing weekend no sleeping hide away in the new sewing quarters, until we finish something.

Once upon a time.

Found this fabric at Spotlight when l was not even looking, love it when that happens bonus.
Thought it may come in handy for a young child's project. Was going to be an apron for a niece, then l changed my mind again.....it has been transformed into this cute little bag. Pattern is "Sweet Sixteen" designed by Rosalie Quinlan.  Makes up very quickly and instructions are easy to follow.
This little bag will go off to a special young lady.
Just needs a cute button to finish it off.
I am sure Nikki Tervo will have something suitable, l am also planing on making one of her Brandy Gully designs "Child's apron & Bag" next.   So very cute.

Chicken Coop

Now sit back whilst l explain our Chicken hutch journey.  The trade off with one Child for our move out of Melbourne was he want to have Chickens because he would like to become a poultry farmer.  Not that much call for this in the suburbs of Melbourne.  So it was agreed.  It has taken us nearly two years but he has finally got his chicken hutch. He intends to move to Gatton to complete agriculture at the Uni there. " I say good on him to follow his dream."

Any way we spend numerous hours searching the internet for back yard  hutches in our local area, because we like to support locals first. Finally bought one on ebay which of course came from Melbourne. Ha Ha!  After a week one parcel arrived that was great but we only had half a hutch, we contacted Australia  Post and two days later the other parcel found and delivered .


Now they could start construction. It was decided that the coop needed a nesting box added. Which was a great father son experience, both chatting over the dinner table as to how this should be done.  Much talk about adding a ceiling fan and insulation which exasperated my no 4 son, thinking this is never going to be completed. So l suggested a nice sofa and curtains for the chickens also. He he he! Once completed a spot in the backyard had to be found that would not interfere with the neighbours. They say that they can be bribed, with eggs of course.

We searched once again the internet for chickens for sale in the local area and research many different breeds of chickens. Unbelievable how many there are.  We ended up at a local poultry farm where they were more than happy to sell us two beautiful girls, ready to lay. We are not disappointed this morning with our very first egg. No.4 son will be pleased when he arrives home from school this afternoon.  As we were not expecting one so soon. After the girls settle in for a few days they will be allowed out to roam the backyard.
